Fondamentale è l’opera sull’Inghilterra del sec. 18°:

pubblicato una grande History of England (1926), che fu seguita poi
(1942) da una Social history of England (trad. it. 1948).

aveva dedicato a questa molti anni di studio, pubblicando
Garibaldi’s defence of the Roman Republic (1907), Garibaldi and the
Thousand (1909; trad. it. 1910), Garibaldi and the making of Italy
(1911; trad. it. 1913). Durante la Prima guerra mondiale era stato
sul fronte italiano (1915-18), e da questa esperienza trasse un
libro (Scenes from Italy’s war, 1919; trad. it. 1919). Altra opera
